Goodness of Raisins

Raisins or ‘kishmish’ as we all know are dried grapes. Usually it is found without seeds and the seeded variety is known is Dakh or ‘mukkaka’.

They are available in a variety of color which ranges from green, light/dark brown and black. Long shaped green ones are supposed to be best varieties. They all are sweet in taste; you can eat them raw, or use them in milk, desserts, cakes, puddings, cookies, etc.

Benefits of Raisins

There are load of medicinal goodness found in raisins and eating them regularly helps in curing of ailments.

  • Relives Constipation – Raisins swells when we eat them, the fibre present in them engulf water and relives from constipation, digestion problem and acidity
  • Removes toxicity of blood – Raisins are good source of potassium and magnesium that neutralizes the increased acidity of the blood (known as Acidosis).
  • Bone health – Raisins are good in calcium and one of the best sources of boron, which is required for bone formation and proper absorption of calcium. Boron is also helpful in preventing menopause induced osteoporosis (bone decaying).
  • Weight gain – Raisins are full of sugar (fructose and glucose) so recommended for weight gain, athletes and body builders.
  • Anemia – Raisins have considerably good amount of iron that helps in treating anemia. Specially good for teenage girls and expecting mothers.
  • Eye care – Raisins have antioxidants and vitamin ‘A’ that protect eye from age related weakening of vision, muscular degeneration and cataract.
  • Slows down ageing – Raisins contain antioxidants that help to keep our skin glowing and beautiful and slow down the ageing process.

Raisins are hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from air) so must be stored in air tight containers is a cool dry place…your fridge. The only precaution to be taken is to wash them thoroughly before use.

So include them in your daily diet in moderation along with other dry fruits of your choice and enjoy the endless relishing effect of goodness.
