Kitchen Vastu

By Shagun, June 30, 2016 Posted in: Vastu

Kitchen is the energy giving area of the house; it is the source for health and well being of all residents in the house. ‘Vastu’ has made some recommendations for proper location of the kitchen in the house, direction and placement of doors and windows, placement of cook top, gas cylinder, sink, refrigerator and other electronic gadgets.

Here are the simplified points which need to be taken in consideration for a positive arralocation of kitchenngement of kitchen in house.

Location – Being the fire place the first choice for kitchen is the southeast corner ‘अग्नि कोन’. If this is not possible the best alternate is northwest corner ‘वायु कोन’ of the house. The door of kitchen can be in north, east, or west.

Locating kitchen in any other location will bring in negatives in house.

Cook top – The cook top or stove should be placed at the South-East direction ‘अग्नि कोन’ inside the kitchen so that the person who is cooking should face towards the east only.

Never choose south faced cooking position as it is negative.

Water and Sink – Being the water element it should be in the North-East direction ‘ईशान कोन’ if not possible the direction of east or north are also suitable.

Never choose south east for sink and taps as it will dampen the energy of house.

Ventilation and chimney – Ideally one window in the east direction of the kitchen is the most preferred a small window can be in south as well for cross ventilation. Chimney exhaust in the East is good.

No ventilation is to be made in south west direction of the kitchen as its drains the positive energy from the house.

Storage and Refrigerator – The storage for all the food grains, utensils, the over head rack should always be on the Southern and the western walls.

Never load Northern and Eastern directions as it suppresses the inmates of house.kitchen

Colour Scheme – The colour of walls should be yellow, green, orange, chocolate or red.  Kitchen slab is best in brown or green colour.

Avoid blue colour in walls and never use black colour slab.

Other Electrical Appliances – Heaters, conventional ovens, micro-waves ovens should be placed in south-east or south side of the kitchen.

Never place them in north-east direction as it creates conflicts in home.

In ancient times, cooking was done on open stoves and the washing of utensils, and preparation of food was done outside. Hence Vastu guidelines were primarily based on the Sun and the main wind directions. With modernization, gadgets and compact living there are many compromises made in the space of house. Health of family is dependent on the energies from food and a well designed kitchen will work as a power house of the family. It must be planned to be a safe place which has ease of working. Don’t go nuts over every fine details of it but try to follow as much as possible because kitchen vastu carries almost 50% of the weighted of total home vastu.

So follow the basic principles of vastu to make your life happy so that you can relish your life.
