5 common deficiencies

Our body is a fantastic piece of equipment and its functionality is ultimate, it is the finest creation and is immensely adaptable. Our life style impacted by few common deficiencies which result body functionality.To have a good functioning all it needs are;

  1. Correct and appropriate amount of food covering full range of nutrition,
  2. Proper rest to reset and repair and
  3. Stress in form of physical and mental exercise.

While you are eating healthy, having enough sleep, have an active brain and doing your exercises regularly still there are chances that you are facing some common deficiencies and may be missing on few important trace elements from the group of various Vitamins and micro nutrients.

If there is any kind of deficiency in micro nutrients your body sends signals. These trace elements either perform or helps in performing various vital functions inside our body. We need to identify the deficiency and fix it basis the symptoms displayed. This is what we will be going through in this article. So, let’s start right away…

Cracking sound in joints

Do your knees pop when you bend them? Do you hear tick sound when you bend your arm? or when you move your neck around?

Reason is deficiency of calcium; calcium is much needed for strong bones and teeth and prolonged deficiency of calcium leads to arthritis.

How to fix – Add calcium enriched items in your diet like milk, cheese, curd, buttermilk and peanut butter these are naturally rich in calcium. Another idea is, take very small amount of calcium carbonate (edible lime) add it in curd or water and have it in an empty stomach for few days. It is easily available in any grocery store or beetle shop near you.

White marks on your nail?

Observe your nails if you see white spots, you are having deficiency of zinc and calcium. This zinc deficiency is one of the top most common deficiency among people who often eats cakes and pastries as these are made of refined grains and refined sugar.

How to fix – Cut off all those foods made of refined flour and sugar.  Add whole grains and variety of pulses in your diet. Do have seeds & nuts on daily basis to improve the condition. For calcium you already know what to do.

Do you feel dull?

Along with lethargic feeling are your lips losing their natural color turning black? Your skin looks pale? Reason for this is deficiency of iron and hemoglobin. Low iron level in the blood one of the most common deficiencies among women.

How to fix – Have iron rich food like pomegranate, beetroot, carrot, whole grains, green leafy vegetables, etc. One very simple way to enhance iron in food is to cook your food in iron utensils so bring back those iron kadhai and tava. A word of advice; as you are done with cooking using iron utensils transfer your food in steel or glass utensils. Prolonged exposure of iron utensils will make the food darker and sometimes alters its smells and taste also.

Skin and Hair issues?

Do you feel issues with your skin and hair like cracking heels, cuts at the corner of your lips? Rough hair? Reason for this deficiency is related to vitamin B group. Our gut contains many good bacteria which synthesize this vitamin in case of any gut issue these symptoms appear.

How to fix – Include probiotics in your diet which is available in curd & pickle. Eat wholesome food to keep your gut healthy this will automatically solve this deficiency. Curd with jeggery do well in this case. As a natural supplement you can have Apple Cider Vinegar half an hour before your meals, this also helps to reduce blood sugar level.

Bleeding gums?

Do you observe blood while brushing your teeth, or your tongue is prone to ulcers? This is the symptom of vitamin C deficiency. Do not ignore this mild bleeding as it seems common but, in this situation, what may happen at your cellular level arteries may also bleed leading to vascular disease in future so ignorance may cost high.

How to fix – Simply include vitamin C rich foods, the top most item is Indian gooseberry (amla). You can have amla in lot many ways chyavanprash, juice, powder, murabba, pickle, chutney. Other sources are guava, oranges, lemon, capsicum, etc.
