Are deodorants safe?

By Shagun, June 4, 2019 Posted in: Self care

Feeling smelly?

Just spray a deodorant and you are sorted for the entire day!!! But wait have you ever checked the key ingredients of any deodorant? India being a tropical country is very hot specially during summers. We all, even after taking daily bath, face the issue of body odour which is very common and there is nothing to feel shameful about it.

Let us firstly understand body odour?

Sweat glands beneath our skin, secrets sweat to cool down body temperature. Along with it excrete toxic waste from our body, this excrete comes in contact with bacteria present on skin surface and produces smell which we feel as body odour. This is highly influenced by one’s food habits. Onion, Garlic Spicy food and Non veg makes us smellier whereas fruits and proper hydration helps to reduce body odour. So, choosing what we eat is one aspect we can work on.

Now coming back to deodorants, most of the deodorants or antiperspirants contain few harmful chemicals; there are aluminium salts which plug the sweat gland temporarily and gets absorbed by the skin near armpit, under breast, once absorbed they all acts like carcinogen.

Triclosan, Butane, Parabens and Synthetic fragrance are some other chemicals by which we shower ourselves after taking a proper bath. Here I would like to share one thing about this synthetic fragrance, these fragrances which attracts us the most contains more than 1000s undisclosed chemicals which any brand doesn’t disclose because it is patent.

So, what is the way out is there any safe solution for this problem?

Yes absolutely…

We can seek for healthier alternatives and luckily there are many products which are not at all harmful but also make us feel fresh and odour free through the day.

For your convenience I have searched a few such chemical free deodorants which are absolutely safe and make you feel fresh along the day.

One thing to mention here there is no such difference between male and female type of deodorants basic ingredients are same. It is just a marketing strategy to sell two bottles of it the same house.

  • Indus valley deo stick: It claims having no alcohol, paraben, aluminium and ammonia. Available in various fragrances which are natural essential oil based. One more thing it is light on your pocket also.
  • Burst of happyness: Made of baking soda (natural ingredient to combat body odour), shea butter, cocoa butter and essential oil etc. give it a try, available in various fragrances choose as per your like I am sure most of us will like it.
  • Coconess: Fantastically natural, good for sensitive skin. Give it a try to believe.

Choose it as per your preferences, because fragrance is a personal choice. These are basically essential oil-based products, you can search on google for them and order them on Amazon, Flipkart or any other e-commerce website online.

You will appreciate that with this one change you are making a switch from chemical to natural products and you will surely find one of your choice. So, get rid of chemicals and relish a pleasant natural aroma around you…
